Growing Through Change
By Myla Denise
http://www.try-umph.blogspot.com

Change is difficult. It is scary. It is unfamiliar. It forces you to jump outside of your comfort zone. You are yanked out of your usual and have to experience things and people that you haven’t or wouldn’t. Change elicits fear because there are so many unknowns. What’s sad is that most people will gladly take a known challenge over an unknown breakthrough. Most people would rather take known discomfort over unknown success. It sounds insane, but it explains why people become complacent; people know what complacent feels like so they are more comfortable being there than taking on a new feeling that they aren’t familiar with.

Outside of the obvious problems that come from fearing change (being complacent and stagnant), you also delay your purpose trying to hold on to what’s familiar. God could be prompting you to achieve great, but because you’re used to good, you don’t want it. Then you find yourself in the very uncomfortable position of having your hand forced. This is where God does what you wouldn’t.

We have all had a feeling, urging, or inkling to do something, but because of fear, we didn’t act. The thing about intuition is that it doesn’t leave because you ignore it. Instead, it extends outside of your conscious and starts to seep into your environment. One day you find yourself becoming more irritated with what used to simply annoy you. One day that boss who just got on your nerves occasionally starts to make you feel like s/he’s riding you constantly. One day what you thought you could take becomes something you can’t stand. One day the situation you had a feeling you should get out of has forced you out and you find yourself wondering what just happened. What happened is God simply did what you wouldn’t.

God is acting on your behalf. There was something He wanted for you that you wouldn’t get yourself so He intervened. Keep in mind that this is not an ending or a loss, it is a beginning and what you step into will be much greater than what you stepped – or were kicked – out of.

Change doesn’t have to be feared. Change doesn’t have to be negative. Being willing to change, saying yes to whatever those instinctive thoughts are, opens your eyes and your life to something much bigger than your natural mind will allow you perceive. There are some who don’t hear the whisper, who don’t feel the gentle tap on the shoulder, who don’t recognize when their names being called, who don’t listen to the countless people lending their support, and who don’t pay attention to the perfect alignment of situations leading us in the right direction. If that’s you then there will be times when God will have to step in and do what you wouldn’t. God will have to step in and make the choices you refused to make. God will have to step in and lead you were you wouldn’t just go. The good news is that you don’t have to remain one of those people. Listen for the still voice. Pay attention to the signals. Believe that your life is in God’s hands. Embrace change. Trust yourself.
