Freedom!
By Nailah Lee
As many people prepare for the New Year, resolutions are commonly made to improve on the shortcomings from the prior year. Losing weight and saving money are common resolutions that people seek after, but what about the deeper things in life? What about emotional growth? As mother’s we tend to make sure everyone is taken care of putting ourselves so far down the totem pole we disappear. We are no longer priorities. Don’t get me wrong, the importance of raising our families is very important but we need not forget ourselves in the equation of life. Think back when you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you became a woman? What were your hobbies before the children or the husband came along? What box have you created for yourself or allowed others to create which has stumped your growth or impeded on the original impression you had of yourself? I dare you to dream again! I dare you to seek out what God has for your life. Let’s make this year, the year of freedom, getting back to original mission at hand…YOU!
~When You See Me~
When you see me do you see a footstool to step on when it benefits you?
Or do you see the servant that God has placed in many lives to assist, not dismiss.
When you see me do you see a nice person that you can use at leisure?
Or do you see the gift of kindness from God bestowed upon me to deal with the incorrigible.
When you see me do you see a child stuck in a woman’s body?
Or do you see the Godly woman, wife, mother, and sister equipped to stand through many storms.
When you see me do you see a clown no one takes serious?
Or do you see the ability to infuse humor to overcome the heartache of pain.
What do you see? Do you really see me?
Or are you comfortable only if I fit in your self-designed box designed with no escape.
If my strength makes you weak, or my passion makes you simple minded, then what do you see when you look in the mirror?
I praise God for how He sees me and not through the flesh covered glasses you use to view me.
As you embark on this journey there may be some people who are uncomfortable with your growth. You must remember that before any of these people in your life, there was God and He sees the true you.
