shakingA Carbon Copy? Not Me!

I walked into an organization the other day and it was eerie. The majority of the ladies involved with this particular organization looked and acted alike. Their facial features were different, but their style of dress, their coiffure, the way they spoke, and their mannerisms were all alike. It was like being in a room full of robots. There was no originality in the place. When I jokingly spoke with one of the ladies about the similarities, she said, “We want to be just like our leader…”

Originality is important. It gives way to creativity and innovation. Cures to diseases were discovered because someone chose to be original and do things a little differently. Children, who were once thought unable to learn, learned because someone decided to do things a little differently and develop new teaching methods. New fashions, music, and books emerge because of originality.

It is fine to want to take on certain characteristics of the people that you respect, but do not lose yourself in the process. Do not become a carbon copy of someone else. This week, celebrate your originality. Appreciate the you that God made. God made you to be distinguished- an original work of art. Be yourself. Do not be afraid to have an original thought. You deprive the world of greatness when you devalue who you are in an attempt to be somebody else.

If you are in a position of leadership, remember that leaders help people bring out their best selves. While you may want people to develop a certain philosophy and take on certain characteristics that you have, don’t expect them to develop into you. Can you imagine living in a world where everyone was just like you?

Enjoy being you! You’ll be amazed to discover how good you are at it! bug
