I had the awesome pleasure of sitting down and speaking with Myra Wallace. She is a woman on the move. Her extensive work and expertise in the fashion and beauty industry is second to none. She has developed several successful business ventures and has poured herself into helping others. Myra has been called many things- a philanthropist, a savvy business executive, a fashion designer to the stars, a sought after speaker, a creative writer, a powerhouse, a trailblazer, a transformer- all which are true. However, after my conversation with Ms. Wallace, I found her to be humble, focused, passionate, accomplished, a giver, and spiritually grounded. She is a woman with a message. She is a woman on a mission and the beauty & fashion industry serves as her platform.
With the release of the 2nd edition of her book Beauty Come Forth, Ms. Wallace is confronting the issues of beauty and defining it with a fervor that the world has not seen before. Society has attempted to set the standard and definition of what real beauty is. Beauty has often been defined by the color of one’s skin, by the size of one’s waistline, and by the texture of one’s hair. The fashion industry and media often portrays a false representation of beauty. It frequently presents an image of beauty that is unhealthy and unobtainable.
In her book, Ms. Wallace challenges us to understand that while it is ok to enhance the outer beauty, real beauty comes from within. It comes from having a real understanding of who you are on the inside. That information alone will cause you to be transformed from the inside out and reflect an image of beauty that the world has never seen from you. It is quite evident that Beauty Come Forth is not a passing phase. It is not a gimmick. It is not a product that you can purchase in a bottle. However, it is a powerful life-altering message that if taken to heart will transform your thoughts and transforms your life. It is a must read for every woman! Pick it up today! You won’t regret it. The following interview is a glimpse into the life and journey of Myra Wallace.
1. Wendy M. Reynolds: Can you share a little bit about yourself and your background?
Myra Wallace: I was born in Long Beach, California, started sewing when I was seven and received Christ around the same time. I loved going to church as a child. I would go even when no one else in the house went. I knew from a young age that God had a call on my life. I didn’t necessarily know what it was, but I knew there was something, it was like God always kept me connected to Him. I have always loved to sew and create things; however I never had any formal training, it was definitely a gift God gave me. At a young age I was making clothes for people. I went to college to study computer science and dance, not fashion. I eventually moved to Texas and tried out for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. After being released after the final cut, I worked in an office and eventually pursued a career as a flight attendant. During this time, two things stayed constant, I stayed in God’s word and I kept sewing. My gifting was in my hands. My gift was in creating. I kept sewing and things kept evolving.
